Our Growth Story

Grassroots Power, Growing Impact

  • April 2020: A few neighbors start making sandwiches at home to help feed people during the pandemic.

April 2021: 100,000 sandwiches — one year in.

September 2021: 250,000 — up from 100K in just five months.

    July 2023: 1,000,000 sandwiches delivered. Still 100% volunteer-powered.

September 2025: 2,000,000 sandwiches — reaching Decatur, Smyrna, Lawrenceville, and downtown Atlanta.

What began as a handful of neighbors is now thousands of people, still working from their home kitchens, still feeding their community every week.

Why It Matters

Food Insecurity in Atlanta: The Need is Urgent

  • 1 million Georgia children face food insecurity.

  • 36% of Georgia families with children struggle with hunger—double the national average.

  • 1 in 8 families in Metro Atlanta are food insecure.

Every sandwich you help make or fund goes directly to someone who needs it. With food prices rising and public resources stretched thin, grassroots efforts like ours are more important than ever.

How We Make a Difference

A Simple Model. A Big Impact.

The Sandwich Project brings together families, neighbors, faith groups, and community partners to fight hunger—one sandwich at a time. Our incredible community makes sandwiches that are collected at our network of collection sites each week. Our dedicated volunteer drivers then deliver those sandwiches to outreach organizations, shelters, and food pantries across Metro Atlanta. Over the last 6 years, we have worked with more than 70 organizations who help us meet the needs of our community.

  • Grassroots-powered: Thousands of volunteers, all ages and backgrounds.

  • Citywide reach: 34+ collection sites spread throughout Metro Atlanta delivering to recipient organizations equally spread throughout the area.

  • Consistent impact: around 8,000 sandwiches delivered each week, with massive surge capabilities during emergencies
